Anselm Berrigan and Kate Schapira

Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2pm

The Gallery at R&F Handmade Paints
84 Ten Broeck Avenue
Kingston, NY 12401

A $5 donation is suggested. For directions please visit R&F’s website.

Anselm Berrigan is working on a kind of excavation process, the consequences of which will hopefully remain tbd. A half-book, or a book written halfly, with John Coletti having written the other halfly, called SKASERS, should be ejected from Flowers & Cream soon. Another book, Primitive State, might come out some time down the road. He would like some decent-to-well paying but not too overbearing work starting in February.

Kate Schapira is the author of four full-length books of poetry, most recently The Soft Place (Horse Less Press), and seven chapbooks. She lives in Providence, RI, where she teaches writing at Brown University and as a visiting writer in Providence schools.

In the Gallery at R&F:

Encaustic Works Invitational 2012 (opening reception on Saturday, October 6th from 5-7pm, and the exhibition runs through November 10th, 2012).

R&F introduced the Encaustic Works series of juried biennial encaustic exhibitions in 1997 as a way of documenting what was at that time the quietly re-emerging, yet obscure medium of encaustic painting. The landscape has changed dramatically over those fifteen years, as the popularity of encaustic has exploded, and juried encaustic shows are now plentiful. 2012 saw the transition of this popular series of shows into an exhibition-in-print.

This exhibition will highlight fourteen of the fifty artists who are featured in the publication, including: Renee Magnanti, Toby Sisson, Susanne Arnold, Peggy Epner, Jeri Eisenberg, Hilda Shen, Debra Ramsay, Binnie Birstein, Lisa Pressman, Cecile Chong, Nathan Hatch, Lorrie Fredette, Gregory Wright and Kevin Frank.
